Commissioned by the editorial illustrator and graphic designer, DearStephan, Kultured Misfits and Wish ATL sought to create an illustrated design that celebrates Black History Month through the power of learning. The graphic was made to celebrate the power of black culture and streetwear culture coming together and how higher education can be found in the most unexpected places.
The design process is taking place within the iconic shoe vault at Wish ATL store. The space features a book wall at the staircase, paying tribute to the old library where the streetwear store is located. The design showcases five students, of different ages, sitting or standing around a classroom, in front of the book wall, with a classic blackboard in the background. Each character is dressed in classic streetwear, with their unique style reflected in their clothing, sneakers, and hairstyles. The graphic also includes smaller details such as branded stickers, water bottles, and rugs, featuring branding for both Kultured Misfits and Wish ATL. The chalkboard bears Wish's "We Have A Story To Tell" tagline. These unique characters embody the KM mantra of "We Were Never Meant To Fit In" – true Kultured Misfits, eager to learn and explore the world around them.
